MARSHALL FIRE RECOVERY

December 2022

2022

The Marshall Fire was the hardest thing our community has been through. Recovery has been a team effort the whole way - neighbors, our Board, and groups like Superior Rising all pulling in the same direction. CBS Colorado covered some of that work back in 2022.

LOUISVILLE RALLY ON USE TAXES

July 16, 2022

Honored to be invited to speak at the rally in Louisville yesterday regarding use taxes. Superior waived use taxes for fire victims back in February and Louisville is discussing later this week. The real challenge is that Boulder County has not been open to any conversations about use tax relief.

Further, BoCo is paying $0 towards cleanup in Superior or Louisville despite the residents here paying the exact same taxes as those in Unincorporated Boulder County where BoCo is covering the costs. What we're asking for is equal treatment and refunds of the use tax. Note that BoCo's general fund reserve is greater than Louisville and Superior combined.

You Tube Video - Devil's Advocate

February 22, 2022

I was asked to do an "interview" on Jon Caldera's show on PBS (The Devil's Advocate) as it related to energy efficiency codes driving up the cost of rebuilding. While I absolutely appreciated the opportunity to share the issues our Community is having with the rebuilding, I know that John has an axe to grind with various staffers and policies within the State Government. That said, we found plenty of common ground with the issues facing Boulder County residents (he also lives in BoCo)

CBS STORY ON USE TAXES

May 31, 2022

I've been very engaged in trying to get use taxes reduced / eliminated for all rebuilds. It's been incredibly disappointing that while Superior acted quickly, no other government entity has followed suit.  Why should a homeowner that is rebuilding be forced to pay the taxes again?

Trustee Ken Lish and I came up with the idea for Superior Cash in a finance committee meeting in late 2020.  It sounded great on paper and the execution was outstanding

SUPERIOR CASH - STORY 2

December 21, 2020

Couldn't be prouder of the Superior Cash program! Trustee Lish and I conceptualized the program in a finance committee meeting and the full board was in total support.

GREEN BUILDING CODES FOR REBUILDING HOMEOWNERS

February 28, 2022

I am passionate about the future and the need to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint. But I cannot let my goals get in the way of a homeowners desire to rebuild a home - that they never wanted to rebuild. Beyond all the rhetoric & emotion, these homes will be significantly more efficient than the homes they lost.

STATE LAWMAKERS & SB206

April 21, 2022

I lobbied on behalf of our fire victims for SB206 that will allocate $35M towards rebuilding.
