Meeting with Commissioners

On August 31st, the Town Board met with the Boulder County Commissioners. This meeting was a long time coming, but surprisingly, the first time the groups had met since I got elected. Given what our community has been through, this meeting should have happened a long time ago. That said, knowing we had limited time, Superior sent a letter to reflect what we were hoping the County would help us with given the Marshall Fire disaster. That letter is here.

A couple of hours before the meeting, we got this response. I personally found the letter far more defensive than I expected. There are some factual inaccuracies within the letter:

• Boulder county contributed $2.25M towards Coyote Ridge, not $7M as the letter indidcates

• Superior pays directly for the Co-Responder program and we paid $100k last year. It's a great program that is administered by Boulder County Sheriff.

The meeting was weird....9 electeds who all want to get their point across. My very brief set of takeaways:

• Use tax relief is “almost ready” and they will have something soon. That plan will account for the new taxes if they pass

• No real response on paying for PPDR in Louisville and Superior like they are in UBC

• Didn't really address evacuations - i think it's seen as something for OEM

• if the wildfire tax passes, anything for homeowners will be need based.

• And BC is withdrawing the BC Housing Alliance Affordable Housing project proposal from the Town docket. That caught ALL of us by surprise and the Commissioners acknowledged that our community wasn't ready for that conversation (after a barrage of emails surely).
